Cui Kai's new work near the Winter Olympics, unlock chongli competition area

Chongli District of Zhangjiakou city, as one of the venues for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, is undoubtedly preparing for the event.

Chongli District, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, has seven large ski resorts, making it one of the largest ski areas in China. However, only one of them, Genting Ski Park, will host Beijing Winter Olympics events.

Genting Ski Park is the only snowboard competition venue in Beijing Winter Olympics built and transformed from the existing ski resort. It will host 20 events in freestyle skiing and snowboarding, and 8 events in snowboard slalom and slopestyle slalom in Winter Paralympics.

It will produce 20 Olympic and eight Paralympic gold MEDALS, the most ever.

The ice and Snow Museum is located in the main downtown area of Chongli, which is the main venue for large-scale cultural and sports celebrations during and after the Winter Olympic Games. It also integrates the public art of the Winter Olympics with surrounding cultural facilities.

The total floor plan

The museum is designed by Cui Kai, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and chief architect of the China Architectural Design and Research Institute. The overall layout of the building faces the square in a circular shape, forming an arc semi-enclosed interface.

It adopts the construction method of museum and library, with a planned total construction area of 24,035 square meters. Among them, 6,861 square meters of snow and ice museum, 5,414 square meters of library, 38,606 square meters of surrounding supporting construction chongli district celebration square, and will set up a ropeway to connect with the surrounding ski resort.

In order to conform to the incline of the interior section of the building, three triangular "crystals" are raised on the large roof sloped up on the east side, and the folded floor system is embedded in the interior to form a "book hill" reading space that can overlook the mountain scenery. Facing the square space on the west side, you can enjoy the rich urban life.

The museum of Ice and Snow has four floors, each space is arranged in an orderly way, giving a sense of "overlapping mountains".

There are four functional halls, namely the Hall of Order, the Hall of History of Ice and Snow Sports, the Hall of History of Winter Olympics and the Hall of Beijing Winter Olympics, and the ice and snow Sports experience area, which will display the history and development of the world ice and snow sports, the previous Winter Olympics and the materials, pictures and videos in the bidding, preparation and holding process of 2022 Winter Olympics in an all-round way.
