Cities and two carbons

Since 2014, World Cities Day has been held on 31 October every year. As the first international Day initiated by China, it has been focusing on and promoting the development of cities under the overall theme of "Better cities, Better Lives".

The theme of this year's World Cities Day is "Action, Local to global", which means that the SDGS are global in scope but locally implemented.

Cities now account for more than 70 per cent of carbon emissions and represent the largest application of the dual carbon target, with many already leading the way in the transition to renewable energy, setting credible net-zero targets and building climate-resilient infrastructure.

Qingdao International Conference Center

Last year, Qingdao became the first green city construction and development pilot in China, which put forward new goals and tasks for urban development from a higher level. As Qingdao's first zero-carbon community project, the Qingdao International Convention Center was awarded the highest rating in China's Green Building Assessment standards -- the three-star Green Building logo -- last year.

Back in 2018, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit was held in Qingdao, the capital of sailing ships. The Qingdao International Convention Center, the main venue, attracted worldwide attention. Behind the magnificent pavilion is the hard work of the builders, in which wiskind has excellently completed the roofing construction and contributed to the successful completion of the project.

Design concept

The architectural design of Qingdao International Conference Center is based on the concept of "Soaring dream, sailing".

The main material is made of light steel structure and membrane structure. From the perspective of shape, the main venue is like a seagull spreading its wings, perched on the shore of the Yellow Sea, and integrated with the mountain, city, sea, harbor and dike, showing the great power style.

This is another work by the academician team of South China University of Technology He Jingtang, following the works of the China Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo and the expansion of the Memorial Hall for the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders.

"Qingdao Speed" integrates "Green Gene"

In order to hold the event economically, the project was rebuilt from the original site of the 2008 Olympic Sailing Center, with a total construction area of 54,000 square meters. Within 8 days, all the original aboveground buildings will be dismantled and shipped out. 46 days, 11,000 tons of steel structure lifting completed; In 30 days, 11,000 square meters of exterior curtain wall construction was completed. In 6 months, complete all the construction tasks, the industry called "Qingdao speed"!

In this seemingly "impossible task", the roofing project was provided by Wiskind with a system solution. The 25,000-square-meter roof construction was completed in only 35 days, becoming an important part of the "Qingdao Speed" relay race.

Wiskind's TR65 Standing Seam Roof Systems uses an aluminum-MG-Mn alloy for its panels, which are inherently resistant to corrosion. The metal plate is fixed on the aluminum alloy T-shaped support through the lock joint, forming good waterproof and wind resistance performance.

The project also added two waterproof layers to increase the waterproof durability of the roof system on the basis of the first level waterproof requirements. For the venue less than 100 meters away from the sea to protect the invasion of the sea breeze.

Its upper berth is equipped with 4,400 square meters of photovoltaic solar energy to ensure the normal operation of meeting places and other facilities even if power failure, adding green genes to the roof.

The project of "green" is more than that, to optimize the design of the outdoor wind environment, reasonable parking Spaces, improve the barrier-free design, green lighting, efficient air conditioning units, integration of solar energy hot water, rain water recycle, construction decoration, tool type type form, air purification equipment, air quality monitoring system and a series of green, the combination of low carbon technologies, just had today.
